David Yepez Studio - Blackstar Configuration
Blackstar Configuration is part of a series of work whose shape and structure represents the change in an object by simulating the introduction of a single point of gravity. Gravitational forces are applied to different forms by introducing varying strengths and wave patterns. By using newly developed models of gravitational waves, the most powerful forces of the cosmos are imprinted of sculptural forms.

Blackstar Configuration is made by laminating many layers of wood, then carving into the form with a combination of robotic and hand carving. The form is then burnt, leaving a textured surface and emphasising the use of a laminated form by creating fissures at the seams. The carbon on the charred surface is then scrapped off and mixed into a paste to be reapplied to the work to achieve the darkest color.
