The importance of lighting in your home

Lighting is of course important in basic terms; it is the difference between being able to see clearly and not. However, its importance goes far beyond this in our homes, whether we are talking about natural daylight permeating into our homes through sheer textiles and glazing, or with the use of clever lighting to illuminate our homes in the evening or night-time hours.

So how do we balance the perfect lighting? What do we need to consider in doing his?

Sheer curtains for example don’t just allow light to permeate into our homes. They also provide privacy from the outside world. Mostly these are cool or warm white plain sheers that we opt for in our homes in Britain, but this doesn’t have to be the case!

In many parts of Europe, much of the interior scheme is provided by use of patterned and colourful sheers. It is quite normal to just dress the windows in a semi private sheer curtain, and for total privacy, a very simple shutter or blackout blind is used. Try it out on your next revamp. It could be life-changing!

Interior lighting of course plays an incredibly important role in illuminating our lives at home. Always remember that the optimum level of lighting improves our moods. It also creates a feeling of space whereas a lower level of lighting will effectively shrink a space to a more cosy environment. Both of these illusions can be controlled very effectively with the use of table and floor lamps and dimmable pendant lighting.

Table lamps are not only a way of illuminating a lower level of lighting to effectively make a space more cosy but they are also often a perfect accessory to provide a focal point in your interior scheme. Using bold colour bases and shades that complement the style and colour scheme of a room is always very effective and beautiful.

Equally it is important not to allow a space to become too gloomy if you want your family and friends to enjoy the space. A gloomy space will also appear cramped and unwelcoming so if lamps are not working for you in this space, then a brighter and elegant pendant light can be used to add illumination, creativity and luxury design to your home.

There are so many designs both modern and classical available at DesignLife today that you will be spoilt for choice!
